They said podcasts would never become a thing. They were wrong.

Podcasts are brilliant. They are free, they are portable, and they provide you with everything you need from information, advice, entertainment and education. There are approximately 545,456,534 podcasts our there so finding them is not the problem, its wading through the mediocre ones to find the real gems.

Ireland’s podcast game is strong with some top quality ear content on tap from MVP’s such as The Creep Dive and Popsessed. However, for today, we’ve put together a list of our top 5 life hack providers.

Owning It: The Anxiety Podcast

If you struggle with anxiety, Caroline Foran is the best friend you never knew you had……until now. Caroline is the best selling author of “Owning It: Your Bulls*t Free Guide To Living With Anxiety” and “The Confidence Kit, Your Bullsh*t Free guide to Owning Your Fear”. She is super honest, and provides practical tools to live with anxiety, worry and self-doubt, and she is also living proof that you can struggle with anxiety and still be successful. She was a hit when she spoke last year at RISE, our first TY conference in October 2018.

Bite Back: With Roz Purcell

Many of us girls feel under huge pressure to attain a certain body type; and that pressure often leads to unhealthy relationships with food. For Roz, her career as a model was built around her appearance, but it was making her miserable. In her podcast she talks about changing her perspective on the relationship between the number on the scales and her self worth.

How To Fall Apart

Trauma and heartbreak are so tough, and when you’re in the middle of it, it can feel so hopeless. That’s why this podcast from the amazing Liadán Hynes is so important. In it, she talks to people who have come through the darkest of times from bereavements to breakups, cancer to breakdowns. The latest episode with Eilis Downey is a tough listen, but shows that once you talk, and lean on those who love you, you’ll find a new way to be okay.

The Good Glow

Georgie Crawford was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at a relatively young age, and it changed her perspective on life completely. Every week, she chats to someone (Lottie Ryan, Cassie Stokes, Riyadh Khalaf) about the importance of self-care and self-compassion. It’s like eavesdropping on a genuine chat between the best of friends.

Finally, Bonus Podcast

United Ireland

Powerhouses Una Mulally and Andrea Horan are national treasures in their own right, and in this podcast they feature a different county in each episode, talking about really important issues that affect all of our lives. We especially loved the Derry episode in which they talk to Sara Canning, the partner of Lyra McKee, who was shot dead at a riot in Creggan. They discuss the legacy of not only Lyra’s death, but also of the amazing work she did during her tragically short life.
