This is gas, albeit a little shocking. This article from a 1958 edition of “McCalls” caught our attention this week as it shared their “advice” for the young women of the era to hook a husband.

The tips are insanely sexist, demeaning, politically incorrect on so many levels, but also kinda hilarious. It’s mad to think this was considered actual advice back in the day!

The 16 people who put together this article were picked for their “lively ideas, mature experience, and good minds”, including a
songwriter, an air-line stewardess, a marriage consultant, a police commissioner, a banker, a psychologist, a bachelor, and a housewife.

Check out our favourites below but the list is for sure worth a read…

#17: Be friendly to ugly men- handsome is as handsome does

#20: Don’t take a job in a company run largely by women

#30: Learn to paint, set up easel outside engineering school

#40: Stand in a corner and cry softly

#76: Double date with a gay, happily married couple (2023 note: we don’t think they mean what you think they mean)

#84: If he’s a fisherman, learn how to scale and clean fish.

Actually, we can’t pick any more favorites, they’re all crazy. Check them out below…
