Wanting to have the ability to predict and control the future is something we all try to hold on to. Sometimes, we just want to be able to control every single thing so we know what to expect. We also like to exist in the comfort zone. It’s so warm and cozy in there! But guess what? If you controlled everything 24/7, chances are, you and your life would get pretty boring. Sticking a toe outside of that circle of predictability is where the magic happens.
Here are some of the things we can and can’t control in life. So when things go pear-shaped, find comfort in the fact it’s often due to factors out of your control. Or, if you’ve just nailed that project or job interview, know that was all you, and give yourself the credit 🏅
Things I Cannot Control
What happened yesterday.
Whether it was the best day of your life or a very low day, it’s over now and you’ve got the chance to start fresh.
The weather.
We live in Ireland so it’s kind of a given that there will be rain and wind and just a generally miserable day 90% of the year. We shouldn’t let this bother us though. The weather will do what it wants to do but we shouldn’t let that stop us right?
Other peoples’ opinions of you.
Regardless of what you do or say, people will always think what they want to think. This unfortunately is something we can’t change, no matter how much we obsess over it. We just need to move on and know that you are a strong woman that can do anything she wants to do and that your opinion of you is the only important one.
Our Past Choices
The best way to learn is to make mistakes. Whether they are big ones or little ones, chances are you will learn, and sometimes learn the really hard way. When you know better, you do better. Don’t spend your day worrying about your past decisions. Try to focus on your future and how you can use your experiences to have the best time.
Time.
Do you know the old saying “time waits for no man” (or woman)? Well, it is so true. Just go with the flow and do the best you can with the time you are given.
Things I Can Control
My boundaries.
What you are comfortable with and what you are not is so important to you. Don’t be afraid to say when you are uncomfortable or speak up when you are unhappy about a situation. Listen to your intuition and trust it. Always.
Unplugging.
We live our lives online now or in constant contact with people. Your world can get to be a very busy place. One of the great things about it being YOUR world is that you can switch off and have some downtime WHENEVER you feel is necessary without having to apologise or explain yourself.
My opinions
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it is also your responsibility to have an informed opinion and to be kind.
Forgiving myself
As we said, you can’t control your past decisions but you can control forgiving yourself. Having the ability to forgive yourself and move on with a clear conscience will set you free.
Voicing what I need.
Whether it be some help, space, or even food (because sometimes we just need snacks okay?), you have the control to tell people what you need. Speaking out and talking about things can solve a lot of issues.
