Oh our hearts are heavy today.

Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul, passed away yesterday aged 76 after a 60 year career. Aretha was the original diva, and an inspiration to all the baby Divas that followed; Mariah, Whitney, Tina, Celine and all the way up to Ariana. Aretha owned every stage she stood on and could belt out anything from R&B to Gospel like nobody else could.

Today we want to share some of our favourite Aretha songs, but also we want to appreciate her ability deliver a masterclass in throwing shade, long before shade was a thing. So lets start with that…

And now for the music. Lets start with the best moment from the best movie of all time. Wow.

Watch Barack Obama bawl like a baby. One of the last performances, she totally still had it…

This iconic rendition of Dusty Springfield’s “Son of a Preacher Man”.

We all know the words to this one. “The moment I wake up…”

This anthem for anyone whose heart has been broken…

How to enter a room, a masterclass.

And finally, the most iconic anthem of them all…

What an amazing career, what a legacy, what a loss. May she rest in peace.
