Exciting news Shona fans. This Christmas, The Shona Project will be heading to Africa to spread our message to the young girls of Zambia. The workshops will be delivered by our newest team member, and you’ll never guess what her name is. Meet Shona.

Nope, we’re not even kidding. Tomorrow, Shona will be heading to spend a few weeks at a camp for young people, and she will be keeping us updated along the way. She wants not only to share the story of Shona (the 1st) with the girls of Zambia, but also to share their stories and her own experience with us. We can’t wait to hear all about it. Here’s her first update…

Over the years, I’ve grown to learn that everything happens for a reason and embracing opportunities as they present themselves is what living life to the full is all about.  This weekend I’m very excited to be heading off to Zambia for three weeks to work at a holiday camp for neglected and vulnerable children. Lots of my time will be spent helping them catching up on English and Maths lessons they may have missed throughout the year as well as having some Christmas fun.

I’ll also be running workshops to promote the powerful message of The Shona Project with the girls at the camp.  This came about through a chance meeting with someone who knew Tammy, sharing some of my ‘purpose’ with them (including my name which is also Shona) and when I found out more about the project it was like it was meant to be!!

I’ve always been passionate about encouraging girls and women with the self-belief and confidence to achieve whatever they set their minds too.  I’ve also been fortunate to have women (especially my Mum) who invest the time and energy to encourage me to be the best version of me I can be.   While there will always be cultural differences, it is important to realise that, as girls, we all face times of doubt and uncertainty and need to do what we can to help each other along our journey.

While I’m going to miss my parents and friends, I’m so looking forward to immersing myself in a different culture, meeting new people and creating smiles for the girls (and boys) I’m going to be spending time with….will keep you all posted, big love and snowflakes,

Shona xx
