Before Michelle Obama, there was only ever one first lady worth talking about. Jackie Kennedy may have had the style and grace but Eleanor Roosevelt has the chutzpah (an old term for swag).
In 1905 Eleanor married Franklin D Roosevelt who became president in 1932. She was a renowned suffragette. She used her platform to form the National Youth Administration, to work for rights of African-Americans, and Women. She visited the US troops abroad during the second world war and became chairperson of the UN Human Rights Commissions.
