Mornings, ughhhhhhh! Is there anything more annoying than that one person who is insanely perky and happy first thing in the morning when all you want to do is be a zombie for a while and drink your tea/coffee and wake up properly?

We recommend you sit down for this one because we are going to knock your socks off. Did you know, that, mornings can actually be fun?! We’ll give you a sec to pick your jaw up off the floor. All good? Right. Not to sound like a parent but routine is key. Mornings can be so lovely you just got to do them right.

So, that is what we are here to do. Sit back, relax, and scroll through our top tips to get your day off to a great start.

1. Make That Bed

Ok, apologies for full-on Mam mode, but there’s more to making your bed than just to be tidy. Falling, hopping jumping, or rolling, whatever way you get out of bed in the morning, making it first thing after is a positive first step for the day. A tiny little achievement that sets you up for the day, without you even realising. The bonus, of course, is that come evening time, few things beat getting into a lovely made-up bed.

2. Candles, Candles, and More Candles.

We can’t be the only ones that have an obsession with candles, can we? There is just something about pegging it to the candle section of any shop, smelling every single one, and we mean EVERY ONE, and then picking your favourite to bring home. Treat yourself, pick out a few candles with scents for all different kinds of moods. Maybe lavender if you’re feeling stressed. Feeling festive? try pumpkin spice or Christmas tree. Feeling fresh and energised? Grab that fruity one that just makes you smile. Anyway, excuse our candle obsessed rant. What we are getting at is light those candles, so before you even know it, as you breathe it all in you can almost feel your cells waking up!

3. Get That Butt Moving

Some people are into it but going to the gym before work or school can be very daunting. Why not get up 10 minutes early and go for a little stroll around the block, head out the back and throw the ball around for your dog, or even do a little bit of yoga. What we would love for you to do, is to get your body moving and wake those muscles up. Exercise gives you the chance to clear your head and set you up for the day ahead too.

4. Make A List And Check It Twice

To-do lists may seem silly or scary but that’s only if you make them a mile long. What we were thinking was if you got yourself a cute little notebook and pen (because who doesn’t love stationery shopping?) and at the start of each morning, jot down 3 – yep only 3 – things you would like to get done today. Does that sound doable? They can be as big or as small as you like. Just pop something down so you will be thoroughly satisfied when you can cross that bad-boy off.

5. Breakfast, Please Don’t Skip It

Okay, we are seriously on a Mam rant today but as the age-old saying goes “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” and well they’re not wrong. You might have convinced yourself you are not a breakfast person, but breakfast literally means ‘break the fast’ from the night, and is the fuel you need to start your day. If you feel like you can’t eat something as soon as you wake up, try getting up a little earlier. Or if toast or cereal is too big of a meal, grab an apple or yogurt. Trust us, you will feel so much better and you will be able to stay awake during your double English class later!

So, who’s up for trying out some of these? We’re not saying just in feet first and take on all 5 tomorrow morning because chances are you’ll be wrecked or put off and won’t try it again. Take your time and gradually add these tips to your routine. You never know, you could be one of those annoying morning people in no time!
