Going back to school is going to be very different this year. So, it’s only fair that your daughter’s move from primary school to secondary school is more daunting than ever! We all know that students didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to primary school, their teachers, and their friends and have time to accept the change. This is a scary time for not only your young girls but also for you, their parents/guardians. Don’t worry though! This is where The Shona Project comes in!

The Shona Project and its team of highly experienced members will be providing live webinar-based workshops and panel discussions on a number of mental health and wellbeing topics that are timely and relevant, particularly around teenage girls who are moving from primary to secondary school. These workshops aim to support, educate, and prepare parents for their daughter’s transition from primary school into secondary school.

With the impact of COVID-19, The Shona Project has had to cancel many of its workshops and events. These webinars are a way of fundraising and a way of providing support for the young girls that we would usually be meeting during this time. This webinar has been created by input from our entire team of professionals and ambassadors.

The webinars will be formatted in a 3-step programme addressing specific themes at each one. They will be an hour-long for 3 weeks in July. The 3 overarching themes will be “School Practicalities”, “Creating Good Habits/Routines”, and “Building Confidence, Resilience, and Wellness”. Topics that will be discussed include:

  1. Change & Transition – supporting teens to manage change, to feel positive about change, and not be overwhelmed by fear.
  2. Worries – the developmental stage of adolescence; what’s important to them and why?
  3. Engagement – how to talk to teens about what they’re feeling and offer support.
  4. Parental Emotions, Involvement, and Support
  5. Practical Skills – ways to cope including journaling, breathwork, daily check-in, and gratitude.
  6. Social Media – how to use it and not let it use you.
  7. Back to school – pre & post COVID; starting 1st year; 3rd & 6th-year concerns.

Tickets will cost €45 and can be bought through this Eventbrite link.

Don’t worry parents and guardians, you will get plenty of value for your money! Each ticket will include: Access to the 3 webinars, a PDF checklist highlighting practical hints, discussion points, and advice, access to recordings of the webinars and a good luck package for your daughter (which includes: A Shona Project wristband, Our Survival Handbook for Girls, a Shona pen and a Shona badge).
