We were so excited to learn that Benefit Cosmetics had chosen a model with Down’s Syndrome to become the new face of their brand. We thought it was an amazing sign of inclusiveness, equality, diversity and universal beauty. Imagine our surprise when we found out that this trailblazer is Kate Grant, who hails from non other than Tyrone, Northern Ireland!

A rep for Benefit told PEOPLE magazine, “We discovered Kate by chance in the summer of 2018 when we saw a Facebook video about her journey to becoming a model,” The rep says that they “instantly fell in love with” Kate’s infectious energy. “We were captivated by her incredible zest for life and determination. She embodied everything we stand for as a brand so we knew we had to find a way to work with her.”

This is not the first time Kate has broken the mould, as in  August 2018 when she became the first woman with Down’s syndrome to win an international beauty pageant: Teen Ultimate Beauty Of The World. She said, at the time, “I was in shock. My family were all in the audience, crying and cheering. My dream has come true. And that dream is to get a chance to inspire young people who have Down’s syndrome and other special needs to believe in themselves.”

Its takes someone special to create a path where none ever existed, so everyone else can follow. We cant wait to see what Kate does next…
