What Does Depression Look like?
People who suffer from depression often find it hard to verbalise or explain how they feel. Sometimes, a picture can tell a thousand words.
Janelia Moud has been working on a project called “A Girl Called Meloncholy- A story of Depression” in which she uses images of a character with no face to explain the feeling that no one can identify with her struggles.
She told the Huffington Post, “I am by no means an expert on the topic of depression and this project is completely subjective, based on my personal experience. I’m hoping to give people that have never had depression a small peek into what it feels like to have depression, a better understanding, if you will.”
“It’s not just about feeling ‘sad’, it’s about feeling empty, lost, hopeless, tired, it’s so much more.”
Janelia said that its vital for anyone going through a similar experience to seek help, no matter what, and that working on this series has been very therapeutic for her, and that “I give my feelings a life of their own through my photographs, inspired by poetry and quotes by different authors,”
